Still, the beauty of Torchlight II is in its build variety: each class has three distinct skill trees with various upgradeable abilities. Four isn't much, I wish they gave you more options. Choose between one of four classes and off you go. One of the heroes of the first game has become the new Big Bad and it's up to you to chase him down. The story is as forgettable as they come. The question is, does Torchlight II make all this mass murder satisfying? By and large, yes. They're a power fantasy where you go around killing foes to level up and get better attacks and equipment so you can kill more monsters and get even better rewards in ever more bloody and spectacular ways. For games like these, the grind is the entire point. Torchlight II is an isometric action RPG in which you wander generic fantasy landscapes killing swarms of enemies that explode into showers of gore and loot. I haven't played D2 yet and my memory of Diablo III from eight years ago is pretty hazy but even I can tell the comparison is well-deserved. So this series is compared to Diablo a lot.
