![]() All organisations should look after their staff in this way…. ![]() worked miracles to get me on the next flight back home to be with my family….my line manager, my COO my team and wider colleagues have responded in the most caring of ways……I didn’t get a standard response of ‘you have x amount of grief days to take’ they have looked after me and treated me with respect, care and dignity during a very upsetting and life challenging moment, thier response is appropriate to my unique situation - and that’s just it - we are all unique and our life challenges unique so a standard policy is there for guidance by treating each persons circumstances individually is true equity thank you Practical Action for holding space for me and allowing me to grieve and make sense of my situation. Last week when I was on a work assignment in El Fashir Darfur i heard the devastating news that my youngest brother had taken his own life….24 hour later I also found out that I am not my Dads biological daughter a secret that had been kept from me by my family for 50 years……I post this on here not for sympathy but instead to thank my employers for how kind and gentle they are being with me - my team in Darfur held space for me to cry to be in shock and then acted so quickly to get me back to Kartoum, my colleagues in the U.K. Vulnerable Brits Up To A Test In South Africa - Into The Big World | South Africa, travel, adolescence, health care, British people | A group of vulnerable teenagers who have grown up in the care system are invited to participate in a volunteer project in South Africa. Oh wow this was a bit of a throwback one of the young people I used to work with found this on line - an extract from the C4 documentary’Big wide world’ circa 2006 17 years ago when I was just 34 and taking 10 young people in care to volunteer in South Africa, before the heady days of the International Citizen Service - this project was pioneering and life changing for us all in more ways than we ever anticipated- I was also completely bonkers but I probably needed to be to make something like this happen when so many people doubted it or didn’t believe it was possible - that project still remains the thing in my career I am most proud of and the one thing I would do all over again in an instant if the opportunity ever presented itself.
